About PikTop

PikTop is two things:

First, it's the first live public resource of top TikToks.

There's nowhere else you can go to see what the top TikToks are, sorted by country and time. We think that's something the world deserves to know – whether you're a TikTok user who's curious about what lies beyond their For You Page, a confused millennial wondering what all the fuss is about, or a researcher trying to understand how TikTok is influencing the information mix in our societies.

Second, it's a game to hunt down the top TikToks.

We made PikTop after spending a long time pondering a simple question: how to find the most viewed videos on TikTok?

Incredibly, we couldn't find this information anywhere, despite the fact that top TikTok videos have been viewed millions, if not billions, of times. TikTok themselves refuse to show this information – their app lets you search by 'most liked', but only if you add a keyword, which biases the search. And we have no way of knowing if the results are comprehensive, or sorting them by country.

So we asked ourselves: what options do we have?

After scratching our heads long and hard, we realized the best thing we could do is engage thousands of people in trying to track down these videos with millions of views, and put them into a readily accessible leaderboard for anyone to see.
